Annual experience day at primary school gives taste of everything from beekeeping to bushcraft

Key Stage Two pupils have enjoyed taking part in a range of activities during an experience day laid on at a village school.

The annual experience day was held at Cranwell Primary school on Friday June 7 and as well as Cranwell children, the exciting cross section of experiences was also opened up to nearby Kirkby La Thorpe School.

The usual daily curriculum went out the window as staff, governors, parents and volunteers from the RAF, sporting groups and local secondary schools provided the opportunity for the youngsters to have a go at everything from bushcraft to cookery, flower arranging to martial arts.

Year 6 teacher Rebecca Hill coordinated the event open to years 3 to 6 at Cranwell School and Years 5 and 6 at Kirkby La Thorpe.

She said: “Lots of people came in to help including Kesteven and Sleaford High School students, friends and families of the school, the wider community and the RAF.

"We had meditation and mindfulness, arts and crafts, drama and music, making lemonade, sports and cycle maintenance.

"The RAF led a session making and flying model gliders to land on a ‘runway’ as well as learning about pilot survival with helmets and life rafts. There was beekeeping skills

and making slime.”

She thanked everyone who supported the school in hosting the event.
